This game was created using Bitsy and was designed after This News Article. Set in the dry valley of McMurdo Antarctica spend a day in the footsteps of an Antarctica researcher as you complete different tasks around the station.

I designed this game to try and learn how to use the Bitsy Game Engine, and to see if I can create an interactive game influenced by a non-fiction story. I believe I was successful in utilizing Bitsy in as many ways as possible using use of Bitsy's sprites, NPCs, items, variables, conditional statements, animation, and sound effects.

Bitsy's restrictions came with many challenges for example the restrictive color pallet and sprite size limit made it very hard to come up with unique and readable sprites and characters. There are also no "if and" statements and there is no easy way to check for specific items or variables when entering an "exit". However, I believe I have overcome all of these challenges to make a great interactive experience.

In case you are stuck here is a tutorial on how to beat the game (SPOILER WARNING):

Task 1 - Making Food: To make food collect the Uncooked Pasta found in the upper right corner of the starting room, then find the bucket of snow just outside of the starting room near the bottom. Then bring both of these items back inside the house to the Fire sprite found in the bottom left corner of the starting room to complete the task.

Task 2 - Fixing the Robot: Head West from the signpost outside to head to the Penguin Research Area. There you will see a mechanic near the computer in the bottom right. The mechanic will ask you to find 10 gear items scattered across the entire map.  All of these gear items can be found in every room in the game. The hardest ones to find would have to be inside the Lab in the bottom right corner, and at the Beach guarded by sea lions on the right-hand side. Once done talk to the mechanic again to complete the task

Task 3 - Processing the Mysterious Material: Head North from the signpost to find the Drilling Site. There talk to the man in the hard hat closest to the Drill. The man will give you a mystery material. Bring that material to the Lab in the Igloo-shaped building in the Community Center found East of the signpost. Talk to the Scientist closes to the machine to learn how to use it. Interacting with the table on the left of the machine will process the material. Talk to the scientist again to complete the task.

Task 4 - Help Out at the Bar: The Bar is the house shaped building in the top right corner of the Community Center found East of the signpost. Talk to the Bartender closest to the bar table. Behind the table you will find 6 drinks. Talk to 6 of the customers sitting on the stools at the tables. Talk to the Bartender again to see your progress. Once you're done delivering all drinks talk to the Bartender again to complete your task.

Task 5 - Delivering Supplies. Head south of the signpost to find the Bus Station. Enter the Bus to head to the beach. There you will find a bunch of sea lions. If you get too close to the sea lions they will teleport you back to the top of the beach. The sea lions have a 3x3 radius surrounding them. Make your way all the way down to the captain by the water and collect the box shaped Storage Item. Follow the blue specks on the ground as all of these tiles are safe to walk on. Once you have collected the Storage Item make your way back onto the Bus and head to the Community Center. Once there enter the hanger shaped building at the bottom of the screen. Once inside there is a maze of boxes. All of the can-shaped sprites are walkable tiles. Talk to the man at the end of the maze to give them the Storage Item to complete the task.
